Susie Cook

Mrs. Susie Sawyers Cook, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, May 13, 2021, at the age of 98. Mrs. Cook was born in Surry County to the late Lee Grant and Sadie Venable Sawyers. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Cathy Cook; a daughter, Darlene Cook; two grandchildren, Brandon Cook and his wife, Kelly, and Maria Cook Jessup and her husband, Ryan; and three great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Cook, Harrison Jessup, and Caroline Jessup. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William Wallace “Bill” Cook; three sisters, Lola Boles, Kathleen Sawyers, and Celia Cook; and five brothers Everett Sawyers, Howard Sawyers, Gratsie Sawyers, Romey Sawyers, and Elmer “Bud” Sawyers. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 16, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alan Branch and the Rev. Roland McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of food and flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
