Susie "Jackie" Jacqueline Atkins

Mrs. Susie “Jackie” Atkins of Ararat, NC, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 14, 2018.  Mrs. Atkins was born in Surry County on September 25, 1939, to Oscar and Alice O’Neal.  She was employed at Bassett Furniture for 25 years.  Surviving are her children, Weldon Gammons, Wallace Gammons and wife Sandra, and Lee Atkins; grandchildren, Brian Gammons and wife Andi, Amber Shropshire and husband Anthony, and Jamiee Davis; great grandchildren, Layla and Levi Gammons, and Korbyn “Foxx” Shropshire; her sister, Mozelle Harrell; and special friends, Ruth Towel, Vickie Lewellen and Cathy Wood.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Fox Atkins, a daughter, Mary Alice Davis; a great granddaughter, Jenna Lynn Gammons, and siblings, Clinton O’Neal, Bob O’Neal, Glenn O’Neal, Roxie Chilton, Annie Bowman, Evelyn East, and Melvin O’Neal.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 17, 2018, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ray Hutson, Rev. Charles Stevens, and Rev. Mike Martin.  Burial will follow in Ararat Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.  The family would like to express special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice for the wonderful care provided.
