Sylvia Ann Flanagan Cail

Mrs. Sylvia Ann Flanagan Cail, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday afternoon, June 27, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.  Mrs. Cail was born October 23, 1942, in New Orleans, LA, to the late William “Bill” and Irma Hemelt Flanagan.  Sylvia loved her family and friends dearly, and she was beloved by many.  She will be remembered fondly as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt.  Sylvia will also be remembered fondly for her expert cooking skills, sharp sense of humor, and knack for giving advice that could be tough, but was always fair.  She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Gene Cail, Jr. and Greta Cail and William Carroll and Crystal Cail, all of Mount Airy; four grandsons, Larry Ray Johnson and his wife, Kristie, of Mayodan, Jacob William Cail and Zackery Lee Cail and his partner, Cierra Gwyn, all of Mount Airy, and Joshua Benjamin Cail and his partner, Adava Johnson, of Roanoke, VA; two granddaughters, Zara Ann Cail and Hallie Dawn Cail, both of Roanoke, VA; and four great-grandchildren, Bentley William Cail, Oliver Gene Cail, and Aria Lynn Cail, all of Roanoke, VA, and Isabella Grace Cail of Mount Airy.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cail was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Gene Cail, Sr.; two daughters, Colleen Cail and Ella Ann Cail; a brother, Allan Flanagan; a niece, Bambi Flanagan; an uncle, Harold Flanagan; and her beloved canine companion, Bandit Cail.  A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with Larry Ray Johnson officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  The family wishes to thank Dr. Carole Everhart and the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for providing exceptional care.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Everhart Primary Health Care, 1236 Bear Trail, Cana, VA  24317; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
