Sylvia Dawn Cornett

Ms. Sylvia Dawn Cornett, 61, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, December 30, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ms. Cornett was born August 17, 1950, in Surry County, one of seven children born to J. Gleason and Alma Oleane Bunn Cornett. Sylvia graduated from North Surry High School in 1970 and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She later worked at Quality Mills for several years. She is survived by her mother, Alma Oleane Bunn Cornett of Mount Airy; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Ray Dunbar of Mount Airy, Pam and George Frye of Mount Airy, and Anita and John Lester of Pilot Mountain; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Rickey and Melinda Cornett of Dobson and Sammie Cornett of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Cornett was preceded in death by her father, J. Gleason Cornett; and a brother, Ronnie Gleason Cornett. A graveside service will be held Monday, January 2, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or a charity of the donor's choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
