Mrs. Sylvia Gaynell Payne Hayslip, 61, of 197 Niston Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, February 20, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hayslip was born August 22, 1948, in Surry County, daughter of Dorothy Branch Payne Cave and the late Kenneth Ray Payne. Gaynell was a certified nursing assistant at Central Care and a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Donald Clifton Hayslip of the home; two daughters, Heather Donette Perry and Kimberly Gail Cave, both of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Ray and Jennifer Hayslip of Mount Airy; three stepdaughters, Charley Quesinberry of Mount Airy, and Tanya Lee Bowers and Sandra Denise Hayslip, both of Charlotte; fifteen grandchildren; her mother, Dorothy Branch Payne Cave of Dobson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Richard Pegram of State Road and Patsy and the Rev. Mickey Brooks of Dobson; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Tony and Patsy Payne of Cana, VA, Jody and Mercie Payne of Dobson, and Maria Payne of Tobaccoville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Mrs. Hayslip was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Katrina Payne; and a brother, Kenneth Payne. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 22, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Johnson, Brother Mickey Brooks, and the Rev. Travis Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Karen Lambe, 620 Imogene Road, Lambsburg, VA 24351.
