Ted Thomas Ring, 71, of 226 Mike St. Dobson, NC passed away at home from a brief illness on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010. He was born the ninth of ten children to Irvin Scott and Etta Caroline Ring in Siloam, NC on May 5th, 1938. Following graduation from Copeland High School in 1956, he began working for the maintenance department of Surry County Schools and retired as the supervisor of maintenance in 1988. A highly skilled tradesman, Ted held state contractor licenses in electrical, plumbing and HVAC. He used these talents to help countless neighbors, friends and families whenever in need. He would often joke that if he could not fix something he would simply make a new one. In addition to his vocation, he was a retired volunteer fireman first with the White Plains fire department and later at the Dobson fire department. His desire to help others also led to his involvement in the start the Dobson rescue squad. Ted was a loving father and leaves behind four children, Mike Ring and wife Jen of Mainz, Germany; Allison Ring Brown and husband William of Clemmons, NC; John Ring and wife Kimberly of Chapel Hill, NC; and Jennifer Ring Bryant and husband Thomas of Pinnacle, NC. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and was quick to spoil them. He now joins granddaughter Aysha Dawn Ring while leaving behind Zachary Ring of Koh Tao, Thailand; Lindsay, Kevin, and Kasey Brown; Maxwell and Nathan Ring; and Morgan Bryant. In addition to his mother and father, Ted was preceded in death by his brother Marshall Ring and sisters June Carol Ring and Hazel Ring Bunker. He is survived by his brothers Cecil and Bill Ring and his sisters Jackie Swaim, Estelle Carlyle, Norma Lou Swaim and Joann Rollins and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks for the constant care and love shown to him go out to his sisters Jackie Swaim and Joann Rollins, his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Ann Ring, the Mike Street neighbors, friends Grady Newman, Donnie and Deano Shockley and the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice. Funeral services are planned for 3pm on January 6th at Moody-Davis funeral home in Dobson, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the hour of the service A burial will follow the visitation at Dobson City cemetery.
