Thelma June Marion Atkins

Mrs. Thelma June Marion Atkins, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Atkins was born June 17, 1922, in Surry County, daughter of the late Johnny William and Sally Hodges Marion. She retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. Mrs. Atkins is survived by a son, Bruce Dean Atkins of Dobson; three grandchildren and their spouses, Ronald and Jodi Atkins and Thomas and Crystal Atkins, all of Mount Airy, and Linda Dellinger of Hickory; seven great-grandchildren, Rhonda Marie Atkins, Ashley Felts, Kelli Atkins, James Atkins, Anna Atkins, Paul Atkins, and Lulu Atkins; two stepgrandchildren, Christopher Martin and Michael Martin; a half-sister, Audrey Marion Cain of Mount Airy; a stepsister and her husband, Nancy and Arthur Johnson of Mount Airy; a special friend and caregiver, Paula Timmons of Mount Airy; and a special family friend, Crystal Lang of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, James Ellis Atkins; a daughter, Peggy Patton; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Henry and Mary Lee Atkins; two sisters, Lena Atkins and Lela Goins; four brothers, Chris, Raymond, George, and Chester Marion; and a stepgranddaughter, Crystal Martin. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 23, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. and Chaplain Jerry Keegan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from noon until 2:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
