Thelma Ethel Hudson Gravely

Mrs. Thelma Ethel Hudson Gravely, 84, of 181 Beasley Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Gravely was born January 5, 1923, in Surry County, to the late Ambrose and Mallie Creed Hudson. She retired from Bassett Furniture and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter and special son-in-law, Glenda and Roger Norman of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel and Myrtle Gravely, Leo and Fronia Gravely, and Jimmy Ray and Brenda Gravely, all of Mount Airy; twelve grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Ellen "Pete" Weatherman, Ollie Childress, and America and Sam Edwards, all of Lambsburg, VA; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James Hudson and Roscoe and Kay Hudson, all of Mount Airy, and Ed and Faith Hudson of Lambsburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gravely was preceded in death by her husband, William Clinton Gravely; her stepmother, Savannah Jenny Surratt Hudson; two sisters, Emma Hudson and Lorena Smith; four brothers, Jack Hudson, Tommy Hudson, Lonnie Hudson, and Paul Hudson; and an adopted sister, Nora Atkins. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Timmy Joe Jenkins, the Rev. Odell Sisk, and Terry Adams. Burial will follow in the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
