Mrs. Thelma Shelton Layne, age 82, of Dobson passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday October 3, 2009. She was born in Stokes Co. on September 27, 1927 to the late Elbert Marion Shelton and Nannie Collins Shelton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Harbour Layne; two brothers Arnold Shelton and Avah Shelton. She was a member of Double Creek Church of Christ, and a retired bookkeeper for various automotive companies. After retiring she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Layne was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Copeland Chapter 22; she served on the Surry County Jury Commission for 43 years, and was a member of the Copeland Homemakers Extension Club. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law Joseph and Kim Layne of Dobson, NC, Richard and Angie Layne of Pilot Mtn., NC; four grandchildren Jessica and Daniel Layne, Allie and Mallory Layne; a sister Mary Ruth McLaurin of Clayton, NC; a brother and sister-in-law J.D. and Georgia Shelton of Dobson, NC; two sisters-in-law Janice Harris, and Mary Bet Hudson, both of Dobson, NC. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Double Creek Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Brother Roger Sickmiller will officiate the service. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 Min. before the service. The Family will receive friends at Moody-Davis on Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the Double Creek Church of Christ Cemetery Fund C/O Joyce Hardy 648 Double Creek Church Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
