Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Hurst McKnight, age 88 widow of Robert James McKnight, passed away at Northern Hospital of Surry County at 11:56 PM November 23, 2007. God called one of his special angels home on that day. Mrs. McKnight was born in Carroll County August 1, 1919 to the late Phillip and Louinda Hundley Hurst. Mrs. McKnight graduated with honors from Mt. Airy High School in 1937. She and her husband Robert were charter members of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and were instrumental in naming the church. She and her husband started a Sunday school class for the deaf, which she taught thirty years. Mrs. McKnight was a board member and served as a very active member in the church as long as her health permitted. A woman of great faith who believed that many of the children of the church were like her own. She enjoyed doing handy work and was a member of the Home Extension Club and Beautiful Quilters Guild. She retired from Renfro Hosiery. Mrs. McKnight is survived by a loving sister and caregiver, Sylvia Wilson and husband Charlie of Mt. Airy; nieces and spouses Sybil Whittaker and husband Ted, Mrs. Rita Hurst McHone a niece was also a loving caregiver, Pixie Stiltner and husband Nick, Rev. Phillip Hurst and wife Diane, Glenn Haynes and wife Ginger, Roger Gravley and wife Michelle, Katherine Ashburn, Peggy Ashburn, Rebecca Stanley, Peggy Smith Blalock; special sister-in-law, Emma Gravley and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents Mrs. McKnight was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert James McKnight, Jr. who died at birth; sisters, Mrs. Viola Smith, Mrs. Gladys Scales, Miss Eva Joy Hurst; brothers, Everett, Marion, Ernest and Wyatt Hurst. Mrs. McKnight will be greatly missed by her family and all who loved her. Her family looks forward to the reunion with her in heaven. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Eddie Honeycutt and Dr. Victor Lyons. Her body will lie
