Mr. Theodore Frederick “Ted” Akers, 73, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Arista, WV May 19, 1942 to the late Russell and Lillian Quesenberry Akers. He was employed with the West Virginia coal mines for numerous years before changing his career to diesel mechanic with Salem Leasing. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Reynolds Akers; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ullrich and Chester; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Nelson Akers and Mary Beth, Theodore Akers, Jr. and Sylvia and Jason Ray Akers and fiancée, Janet Easter; a step daughter, Heather Reynolds; twelve grandchildren; one great granddaughter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene Adams, Nancy Stuck and Joe, Phyllis Bledsoe and Jack; and mother-in-law, Maggie Reynolds. In addition to his parents, Mr. Akers was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Wilma Jean Akers; a sister, Janice Hatfield and a brother, Russell Lee Akers, Jr. The family will receive friends at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
