Mr. Theodore Delano "Pete" Younger, 76, of 1556 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, February 19, 2011, at his home. Mr. Younger was born December 22, 1934, in Surry County, son of the late Harrison Seymour and Myrtle East Younger. Pete worked as a tobacco farmer with his family for many years. He later retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was a member of Union Hill Friends Meeting. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Tolbert Younger of the home; two daughters, Fonda Younger of Mount Airy and Rhonda Younger of Burlington; two sons, Trent Younger and Jamie Younger, both of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Justin Banner of Raleigh, and Zane Younger and Ryelee Younger, both of Mount Airy; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Treva Collins of Mount Airy and Dorothy and Thomas Mills of Winston-Salem; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Kermit Younger, Birchard and Foye Younger, Jim and Janice Younger, Rex Younger, Pauline Atkins Younger, and Patricia Pennix Younger, all of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Penny Stewart and Brian Tilley; and a special caregiver, Jean Byrd. In addition to his parents, Mr. Younger was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Younger; and two brothers, Randolph Richard Younger and Bruce Alfred Younger. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Union Hill Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Sammy Lawson and the Rev. Milton Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
