Thomas Yancey Brintle

Mr. Thomas Yancey Brintle, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away quietly on Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2010, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Mr. Brintle was born February 8, 1935, in Surry County, son of the late Charlie Bynum and Mary Kate Jones Brintle. He was retired owner of Brintle Enterprises. Mr. Brintle was an avid lover of bluegrass music and played several instruments with local bands and with famous musicians throughout his life. Mr. Brintle is survived by his loving family, wife, Glenda Ann Riggans Brintle; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommy and Sheila Brintle and Eddie Brintle, all of Mount Airy; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dwayne Carter of Mount Airy; two stepchildren, Seth Key and Hannah Key, both of Mount Airy; six grandchildren and their spouses, Christy and Greg O'Neal, Kelly Brintle, Martha and the Rev. Kevin Minix, Elizabeth and Garrett Vernon, Chynna Brintle, and Julius Brintle, all of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Vernon and Clara Kate Minix, both of Mount Airy; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Blanche Brintle of Mount Airy and Lynn Riggans Burcham of Dobson; and four sisters and five brothers-in-law, Rachel McBrayer of Valdese, Mary Lou and June Link of Salisbury, Frances and Ben Bolick and Cinnie Cobbler, all of Mount Airy, Larry and Tracie Riggans and Terry Riggans, all of Dobson, and Barry and Shauna Riggans of Hayes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brintle was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Charles McBrayer and Jim Cobbler. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Kevin Minix and the Rev. Gene Brinkley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from noon until the time for the service. Burial will follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery.
