Mr. Thomas Jefferson Callahan, Jr., 73, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Callahan was born January 4, 1938, in Surry County, to the late Thomas Jefferson Callahan, Sr. and Nonnie Marion Callahan. He was last employed at Bassett Furniture Company and was a member of Indian Grove Baptist Church. He served as a deacon for 51 years at Tabernacle Baptist Church and Indian Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Sybil Martin Callahan of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Juna and Alan Easter of Pilot Mountain; two grandchildren, Hope Easter and Matthew Easter, both of Pilot Mountain; sisters and brothers-in-law, Grace White of Elkin, Maggie Slate of Mount Airy, Gertrude Wall of Pinnacle, Marie and Richard Butner of Tobaccoville, and Leon Martin of Pilot Mountain; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dee and Virgie Callahan of Pfafftown. In addition to his parents, Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Ida Gammons Martin; a brother, Raymond Callahan; and four sisters, Ola Brindle, Bertha White, Thelma Cooke, and Opal Ward. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Indian Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
