Dr. Thomas Richard Jackson, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday February 27th, 2022 at Transitions LifeCare, Raleigh, NC surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie, PA on September 20th, 1949 to the late Dr. Richard Jackson and Julia Wells Jackson. Dr. Jackson attended The McCallie Preparatory School, University of Chapel Hill, and UNC School of Dentistry. He was well known in the community as a caring dentist to many for over forty-five years. He held five U.S. patents in the field of dentistry and lectured at many universities and American Dental Association conferences throughout the country. He also authored many chapters of dental school text books. Mount Airy residents remember Dr. Jackson flying his Pitts biplane, providing entertainment with his aerobatic feats. He will be remembered by many special skydiving and pilot friends. He was an IFR rated pilot, an aerobatic pilot, and enjoyed life to the fullest, sky-diving, BASE jumping, SCUBA diving, hiking the Appalachian trails, and snow skiing the Rocky Mountains. Dr. Jackson was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and a memorial plaque has been placed in his honor at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, home of the world’s largest airshow. Left to cherish his memories are his children and family, Dr. Juli Jackson Clark and son-in-law Henry Clark of Raleigh, Ashly Jackson Berta and son-in-law John Berta of Mount Airy, Thomas Justin Jackson and daughter-in-law Caroline Jackson of Greensboro, Candace Jackson Moody and son-in-law Jeremy Moody of Raleigh, Andrew Cole Jackson and Mary Skye Jackson of Raleigh, as well as his eight grand-children, William Jackson Clark, Margaret Elizabeth Clark, Kathryn Compton Clark, John Michael Berta VII, Riley Jackson Berta, Matthew Samuel Jackson, Thomas Merritt Jackson, and Mason Jax Moody, and his two brothers, Dr. David Jackson and Roger Jackson of Mount Airy, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Airy, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 at the funeral home.
