Mr. Thomas Richard Pardue, Sr., 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Pardue was born October 10, 1925, in Surry County, to the late Tuttle Earnest and Ina Jane Lewis Pardue. He served in the United States Army Airborne during World War II. Mr. Pardue was co-owner of Surry Furniture Inc. and a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hope Smith Pardue of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Richard Pardue, Jr. of Mount Airy and James Smith and Lisa Pardue of Jamestown; two grandchildren and a spouse, Catherine and Thomas Sebastian of Newport News, VA, and Thomas Aaron Pardue of Chapel Hill; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Magdalene and Mitchell Moore of Mount Airy, Barbara and Joe Chavka of Florida, and Lester Vaughn of Winston-Salem; and a brother and two sisters-in-law, Tuttle Earnest and Vergie Pardue of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Pauline Pardue of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pardue was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Pardue Vaughn; and a brother, Daniel C. Pardue. The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert McCrary, and burial will follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
