Thomas Christopher Portis

Mr. Thomas Christopher Portis, age 91, of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Portis was born in Surry County on March 27, 1931, to the late Henry Robertson and Ada Martin Portis.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army. Tom was retired from United Technologies, formerly United Plastics, after many years of dedicated service.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend.  Tom will be deeply missed by all that knew him.  Surviving is his wife of   years, Patsy Gray Shambley Portis; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Portis Tickle and husband James; and two sisters, Alice Portis Easter, Faye Portis Horton.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Portis was preceded in death by a son, Tony Gray Portis; one sister, Allie Portis Easter; and three brothers, Jack Portis, Joe Portis, and Glenn Portis.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Bill Watson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Portis Family Cemetery in Ararat, Virginia.  The family will receive friends on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
