Thomas Rodney Vernon, Sr

Mr. Thomas Rodney Vernon, Sr., 58, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Vernon was born July 6, 1952, in Surry County, to Doris LeAnn Hiatt Vernon and the late Oliver Lloyd Vernon, Sr. He was a retired brick mason and a member of the Jehovah's Witness faith. Mr. Vernon is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Myers Vernon of the home; five daughters, Stephanie Vernon of Clemmons, Dorissa Vernon of Lenoir, Barbara Herrera of North Wilkesboro, Brandi Solice of Mocksville, and Jessica Govea of Mount Airy; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Rodney Vernon, II of the home, Howard Eli Vernon of Clemmons, Joseph and Kelly Lee of Hamptonville, Phillip Adam and Tabitha Lee of Yadkinville; twenty-two grandchildren; a sister, Brenda Norman of Cary; two brothers, Oliver Lloyd Vernon, Jr. of Mount Airy and Kent Mitchell Vernon of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Clifton O'Neal. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 3, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
