Tilda Gaye Atkins

Ms. Tilda Gaye Atkins, 33, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2006. Ms. Atkins was born March 26, 1973, in Surry County, to Lonnie and Rita Atkins. She was a 1991 graduate of North Surry High School and Surry Community College, was a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church and is a teacher's assistant at Flat Rock Elementary School. She is survived by her parents, Lonnie and Rita Atkins of Mount Airy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Terry Atkins and Travis and Angela Atkins, all of Mount Airy; her paternal grandmother, Violet Fulk Odell of Mount Airy; godparents, Dianne and Johnny Willey, Lowgap, NC, niece and nephews, Triston J. Atkins, Dylan Ray Hiatt, Tyler Alexander Jones and Carley Rae Atkins, all of Mt. Airy, aunts, Rita Nichols, Gastonia, NC, Shirley Dollarhite, Bertha Venable, Lola Venable, Carrie Lee Flippen, Alma Lou Vernon, Faye Stanley, Ollie Quesinberry, and Minnie Holyfield, all of Mt. Airy, uncles, Larry Atkins, C.W. Atkins, Daryl Atkins, Garnett Wade Venable, Roby Venable, Rudolph George, Otis George, Orville George and a special uncle, Chester George all of Mt. Airy. special friends, Brian Hayes, Brandi Simmons, Anita Puckett, Ted Creed. Ms. Atkins was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clandis Wilson Atkins and Sherman and Christine Venable. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Rock Hill Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dwight Sechrist, Rev. Ted Crotts and Rev. Bill Watson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
