Mr. Tommy Dean Dockery, 75, of Elkin, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born April 13, 1935, in Surry County, to the late Thomas Alvin and Minnie Elizabeth Shinault Dockery. He was a retired farmer and the owner and operator of Dockery Appraisal. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and he enjoyed NASCAR, baseball, and his family. He was a member of Union Cross Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Betty Stewart Dockery of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and James Longworth of Elkin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Sandra Dockery and Chris and Tammy Dockery, all of Elkin; four grandchildren, Joshua Longworth, Jacob Longworth, Sydney Dockery, and Riley Dockery; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Victoria and Clyde Hayes of Lowgap, Hallie O'Shea of Mount Airy, Fairy and Cecil Hayes of Pleasant Hill, and Elizabeth Helton of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Lorene "Jo" Dockery of Dobson; a sister-in-law, Juanita Dockery of Elkin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dockery was preceded in death by a brother, Gilmer Dockery. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with Dr. Victor S. Lyons and the Rev. Stewart Roten officiating. Burial will follow in the Dockery Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in memory of Tommy Dean Dockery to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
