Mr. Tommy Joseph Matthews, 58, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Matthews was born October 18, 1952, in Bunkie, LA, to Tommy Joseph Matthews, Sr. and Madie Descant Matthews. He served our country in the United States Navy and was employed with the United States Immigration Service. Mr. Matthews loved performing impersonations of Elvis. Surviving are his loving wife, Peggy Matthews of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Samantha Matthews of Pollock, LA, Tommy Matthews, Jr. and Carol Matthews of Asheboro, and Trevor Matthews of Manou, LA; stepchildren, Peggy Perez and Trent Murray of Westfield, Manny and Sabra Perez of Kernersville, and Joey Perez of Greensboro; grandchildren, Shaylynn Matthews, Arianne Matthews, T.J. Matthews, Caydence Murray, Trinity Murray, Gavin Murray, Sophia Murray, Caiden Perez, Alana Perez, and Ava Perez; a brother-in-law, Juris East of Lafayette, LA; stepfather, Phillip Wittington of Chaneyville, LA; and cousins, Cliffton Guillot and his wife, Georgia, of Gonzales, LA, and Elliot Guillot and his wife, Peggy, of Bunkie, LA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva East. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Father Eric Kowalski officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
