Mr. Tommy Aurther Turner, 64, of 1199 Maple Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Turner was born February 6, 1945, in Fentress County, TN, son of the late Prime McDowell and Fonza Hinds Turner. Tommy was a retired technician from Hodges Transmission Service. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ruth Lawson Turner of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Rodney Dunning of Farmville, VA, and Crystal and Ricky Wiles of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Sarah Dunning, Courtney Wiles, Kaci Wiles, and Olivia Dunning; two stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Brandi and Chad Church and Bradley and Hope Wiles; a great-stepgrandchild, Carson Wiles; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jean and Ward Hodges of Mount Airy, Susie and Joe French and Wilma Kaye Atkinson, all of Cookeville, TN, and Clella Zornow of Byron Center, MI; three brothers and a sister-in-law, John Robert Turner and Keith Turner, both of Jamestown, TN, and Willis Ray and Judy Turner of Richmond, KY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ruth Turner; and two brothers, James Herbert Turner and Kenneth Darrell "Dodge" Turner. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 31, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Atkins and the Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
