Mr. Tony Lee Rigney, age 79, of Mount Airy, NC, and Deland, Florida, passed away Thursday evening, October 20, at AdventHealth Deland Hospital in Volusia County, Florida.

Tony was born on October 14, 1943, to the late Gifford Lee Rigney and Ruby Virginia Westmoreland Rigney.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Carole Easter Rigney; brothers, Don Rigney and W. H. Rigney; sisters, Esther Rigney Henley and Libby Rigney Richardson; and his grandson, Dylan John Casstevens.

Tony was a master carpenter from a young age and was the owner of Tony’s Cabinet Shop in Mount Airy from 1984 – 2006. He developed a love for auto racing in the 60s that lasted throughout his lifetime. From the dirt tracks of Virginia to the Modified Division at Bowman Gray Stadium, Tony made lifelong friends and many memories. He was an avid golfer, always bringing excitement wherever he teed it up. He loved his family and sacrificed much for them.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Diane Rigney of the home; daughters, Annette Rigney Gardner (David) of Mt Airy and Kelly Brantley (Chris) of Pilot Mountain; sons, Scott Anthony Rigney (Lynn) of Mount Airy and Robin Moorefield (Jessica) of Westfield; grandchildren, Jessica Johnson Ayers (Travis), Alex Rigney Tedder (Dalton) and Ariel Nicole Frye all of Mt Airy, Branson Brantley and Eli Brantley of Pilot Mountain; great- grandchildren, Leevi Parker, Asher Utt, Tymin Ayers and Remi Tedder, all of Mount Airy; aunts, Norma Lampron of Mt Airy and Edie Jackson of Florida; and his very special fur baby, Baby.

A celebration of Pa’s life will be held Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Epworth United Methodist Church at 4:00pm. Following the service, some of his favorite foods will be served in the fellowship hall, including hot dogs, chips, and ice cream.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 132, 15315 Fancy Gap Hwy, Cana VA 24317.
