Mr. Tony Dale Shelton, 52, of 172 NE Pine Street, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Shelton was born May 31, 1955, in Surry County, to Jacqueline "Jackie" Vogler Shelton and the late John Quincy "J.Q." Shelton, Jr. Tony graduated from North Surry High School in 1973. He served as a police officer with the Mount Airy Police Department in the 1970s and the Pilot Mountain Police Department in the 1980s. Through the years, Tony also helped in the family business, J.Q. Shelton Auto Parts and Sales, Inc. Mr. Shelton was a member and past president of the Flat Rock Ruritan Club, a past scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 539, and a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Raines Shelton of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Adam and Jessica Shelton of King and Matthew and Sarah Shelton of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Natalie Shelton and Breanne Shelton, both of King, and Elijah Shelton of Mount Airy; a stepgrandson, Alan Fletcher of Mount Airy; his mother, Jacqueline "Jackie" Vogler Shelton of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Lynda S. and Dan Terry of Sacramento, CA; a brother, John Quincy Shelton, III and fiancee, Andrea Thomas, of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews, John and Meghan Shelton of Charleston, SC, Jamey and Jaime Shelton of Hampstead, Kelley and Jeff Koll of Amsterdam, Jason and Julie Wood of Cana, VA, and Brad Thomas of Mount Airy; and a special uncle and his family, Frank, Lisa, and Britney Shelton of Mount Airy. In addition to his father, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by two brothers, Kelly Dean Shelton and David Keith Shelton. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 16, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home; however, the family may be contacted at the home of Jacqueline "Jackie" Vogler Shelton, 1560 East Pine Street, Mount Airy.
