Trent Gregson Wood

Mr. Trent Gregson Wood, 73, of 249 Paisley Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, September 28, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Wood was born February 20, 1937, in Surry County, son of the late Alvery and Iona Francis Wood. Trent served our county in the United States Army in the late 1950s and retired as a foreman from Hanes Dye and Finishing Company. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shelby Jean Midkiff Wood of the home; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marylene Smith of Yorktown, VA, Elaine and Harold Corn of Pfafftown, and Kay Jones of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Violet Barnard Midkiff of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Mary Midkiff of Mount Airy; and a special dog, Smut. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 1, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tim Burton and Dr. David Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Violet Barnard Midkiff, 242 Paisley Drive, Mount Airy.
