Treva Brown Kirkman

We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:8. With this truth, we said good-bye from this life and acknowledged the eternal presence with God our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Treva Brown Kirkman. Mrs. Kirkman crossed to the other side of the river to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday night, August 27, 2008. She was born January 29, 1936, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Roy Franklin and Mildred Owens Brown. Treva was a homemaker and worked at WSYD radio station for many years. Mrs. Kirkman was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Benston Franklin Kirkman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Keenan Journey of Mount Airy; two granddaughters and their husbands, Breann and Jacob Wyse and Britni and Dustin Rogers, all of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Kenedi Blaire Rogers of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and Bill Needham and Sandra and Fred Childress, all of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Orene Cagle of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kirkman was preceded in death by an infant son, Benston Franklin "Benny" Kirkman, Jr. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Milton Sewell and the Rev. Buford Jessup, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the Shelton Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 933 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the 2nd floor nurses and staff at Northern Hospital of Surry County for the love, care, and compassion shown to Treva during her illness.
