Mr. Troy McKinley Atkins, 80, devoted husband of Beulah Davis Atkins, of Dobson passed away at his home on Tuesday November 28, 2006 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County to the late Joe McKinley and Lillie Corder Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a retired Tobacco Inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served our country during WWII and a member of New Home Church of Christ. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Beulah Davis Atkins; a special son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kathy Atkins of Mt. Airy; the precious love of his life, his granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Atkins; a special niece Lisa Blevins and several other special nieces and nephews; two brothers and sisters-in-law Carl and Ann Atkins and Lacy and Doris Atkins all of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by two brothers Ivan and Clifton Atkins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday November 30, 2006 at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Atkins and Rev. Dan Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM at the church. His body will then be taken to Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson where he will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and neighbors and to Amy Lawson, Tracy McMillian and Penny Bowman of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative care for the many acts of kindness and the love and support shown to Mr. Atkins during his illness.
