Troy Washington Tolbert

Mr. Troy Washington Tolbert, 80, of 1897 Pipers Gap Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Tolbert was born August 28, 1932, in Surry County, the son of the late Hubert Lee and Mecie Hodges Tolbert. Mr. Tolbert loved to play and sing gospel music. He was well known for his musical abilities. He was a founding and dedicated member of Victory Baptist Church. Mr. Tolbert worked for Sears and Mount Airy Housing Authority. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Phyllis Smith Tolbert of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Shaytonya Tolbert of Asheville; a son-in-law, Richard Lee Crist, Sr. of Charleston, WV; three grandchildren, Briley Ryan Tolbert of Asheville, and Bridget Crist and Richard Lee Crist, Jr., both of Charleston, WV; a great-grandchild, Kaydence Crist of Charleston, WV; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Myrtle O'Neal of Madison and Carol and the Rev. Ray Beck of Ararat; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Ruby Tolbert of Pinnacle; three sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Tolbert, Ruth Tolbert, and Faye Tolbert McMillian, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tolbert was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gayle Tolbert; a son, Billy Wayne Tolbert; three brothers, Ralph Tolbert, Herbert Tolbert, and Floyd Tolbert; a twin brother, Roy Tolbert; and a brother-in-law, Raymond O'Neal. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joey Jessup, the Rev. Furman Wilson, and the Rev. Walter Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Booker-Busick-Smith Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church.
