Ules Murphy Hawks

Mr. Ules Murphy Hawks, 72, of Cana, VA, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born July 20, 1937, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Troy Murphy and Viola Edwards Hawks. He was owner and operator of Hawks Brothers Grocery in Cana and was a member of Rocky Ford Christian Church. Mr. Hawks is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Bernice Leftwich Hawks of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Parrott of Cana, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Crystal Hawks of Pilot Mountain; a granddaughter, Kristie Parrott of Cana, VA; sisters and a brother-in-law, Gladys Combs, Imogene and Raymond Dawson, and Dorsa Hawks, all of Cana, VA; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by two brothers, Wade Hawks and Dallas Hawks. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 25, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Rocky Ford Christian Church, with the Rev. Billy Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1:30 PM until the time of the service.
