Ulysses Edward Ayers

Mr. Ulysses Edward Ayers, 82, of 161 Welcome Baptist Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday afternoon, September 7, 2009, at Alleghany Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sparta. Mr. Ayers was born September 8, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Claude Swanson and Nancy Elizabeth Spencer Ayers. He retired from the Mount Airy Furniture Company and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Opal Marie Ayers of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Kerry Ayers of Gladesboro, VA, and Eric and Tammy Ayers and Toby Ayers, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Jacob Ayers, Tamara Ayers, Lance Ayers, Cody Ayers, and Logann Ayers; a great-grandchild, Kenadie Grace Ayers; and three sisters, Myrtle Vernon of Winston-Salem, Wanda Eggers of Mount Airy, and Eunice McGuire of Welcome. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcela Smith and Kathleen Parker. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at 7:00 PM at Welcome Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bailey Elmore officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 6:00 PM until the hour of the service.
