After living a wonderful life with no regrets, Valerie Bowen Everett Hall finished her life on August 7, 2007. Born in eastern North Carolina to Red and Elsie Everett, she was the baby and only girl. She attended elementary school in Bath and graduated from Raleigh's Broughton High School. She moved to the Winston Salem area in 1970 upon marriage. After that marriage ended, she was married to Tyler Pace in 1976. In 1977, Surry Dian Pace was born on April 26th and died on October 8th with liver failure. That marriage ended shortly thereafter. In 1982, she met the love of her life, James Walker Hall and they were married in October 1984. With lots of luck, laughter and love, they shared their life until her end.
With previous employment in the Employment Security Commission, Vocational Rehab, VA Regional Office, IRS Mail Audit Unit in Greensboro, Valerie transferred to the US Postal Service in 1978 and remained there until her retirement March 3, 2006. She had been away from work and friends since April 2005 when her cancer was found and treatment began. A veteran of the US Army Reserves from 1973 until 1977, she served as company clerk with the 108th TNG Division in Mt. Airy and as a medic with the 312th Medical Evacuation Unit in Winston Salem.
She was active in Surry Quilters, Forsyth Piecers & Quilters, Forsyth County Master Gardeners, Winston Salem Rose Society, Pilot Mountain Garden Club, Carolina Bonders Machine Knitting Guild and the Piedmont Hosta Society as long as health permitted. She volunteered for Stokes Senior Citizens as a driver. She enjoyed being with people and had the gift of gab and a love of flowers and animals and anything creative.
Surviving in addition to her husband Jimmy are her daughter, Bridgette Howard of Greensboro; her step son, Steve West of Winston Salem; two grandsons, Josh Howard and Scotty West; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dave Everett, Surry and wife Dorothy Everett; her dad, Red Everett of Bath, NC. Also surviving are two brother-in-laws, Johnny and Molene Hall of King and Lundy and Wendy Hall of Winston Salem; two sister-in-laws, Carol and Richard Hoover of Kernersville and Lephon and Charlie Jeremias of Newberry, SC. A multitude of cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends are left with memories. Her mother and step father, Elsie and Joe Dixon preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery in Lowgap, NC. Special thanks goes to everyone who supported her during her journey with cancer whether you sent card, donated leave, phone calls or visits, gave her chemo, did her scans or assisted her in any way. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Charles F. Stone Library 309 W. Main St. Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 would be appreciated.
