Valerie Bohland Hicks

Mrs. Valerie Bohland Hicks, 58, of 184 Beasley Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2006, in Charlotte. A native of New Jersey, Mrs. Hicks was born November 19, 1947, to the late John F. and Dorothy Meyers Bohland. Valerie had been employed as a LPN by the American Red Cross for the last 11 years, and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. To all who knew her, she was a loving friend and a dedicated mother. She will be missed greatly. She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shelley and David Creed of Ararat, Tammy and Doug Johnson of Pilot Mountain, Amanda "Mandy" Harsar of Charlotte, and Nicole and Heath Jones of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Jac Creed and Marshall Creed, both of Ararat, Taylor Jones and Carter Jones, both of Mount Airy, Harrison Smith, Beth Johnson, and Trevor Johnson, all of Pilot Mountain, and Meaghan Harsar of Charlotte; a sister, Sandy Bohland of Tobaccoville; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and Karen Bohland of New Bern and Rick Bohland of Rural Hall. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Fredrick "Mark" Hicks, Jr. The funeral mass will be held Friday, September 1, 2006, at 11:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church. The service will be conducted by Father Eric Kowalski. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Shelley and David Creed, 1188 Pratt Road, Ararat. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to American Red Cross, Northwest North Carolina Chapter, 690 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
