Veona Mae Gunnell

Mrs. Veona Mae Vaughn Gunnell, 92, of Cana passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  She was born in Carroll County, VA to the late Joseph and Lessie Gwynn Vaughn.  Mrs. Gunnell was an active and faithful member of Flat Ridge Baptist Church for over 70 years.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gunnell was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Junior Gunnell; a son Jimmy Gunnell; and a brother, Hasvil Vaughn. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Wade Dawson of Cana, and Donna and Andy Bryant of Pilot Mountain; three grandchildren, Ginger VanNess and husband Paul of Burlington, Sabra McCallister and husband Adam of New Bern, and Emily Bryant of Pilot Mountain; five great grandchildren, Hailey, Hayden and Eli Monroe Gentry, and Alana and Adalyn VanNess; one great-great grandchild, Ainsley Vamper; a sister-in-law, Bertha Vaughn and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Flat Ridge Baptist Church in Cana with Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service and at other time at the home of Mrs. Gunnell.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Flat Ridge Baptist Church, c/o Doris Dawson, 229 Meadowbrook Rd., Cana, VA 24317.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
