Vera Inman Ashburn

Mrs. Vera Inman Ashburn, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, June 12, 2017, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility. Mrs. Ashburn was born May 2, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Emmett Luther and Lola Bennett Inman. Vera worked as a licensed practical nurse at Northern Hospital of Surry County for many years. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Kirkman and Sandy and Ed Nester, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Lee Ashburn of Mount Airy; seven grandchildren, Vincent Kirkman, Jamie Kelly, Nolan Kirkman, Keenan Kirkman-Howle, Natalie Nester, Hannah Ashburn, and Jay Coalson; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ashburn was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Russell Ashburn; a son-in-law, James Carlis “Jimmy” Kirkman; and a grandson, James Michael Nester. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
