Vera Gladys Gentry Goings

Mrs. Vera Gladys Gentry Goings, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born December 15, 1917, in Surry County, to the late Rennie and Jane Nixon Gentry. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a friend to all. She was a retired employee of the cafeteria at Beulah School and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Edmonds of Dobson and Janie and Aaron Draughon of Mount Airy; five grandchildren and four spouses, Jeff and Deanna Edmonds of Dobson, Joel Edmonds of Dobson, Josh and Nicole Edmonds of Apex, Shannon and Joel Ford of Boonville, and Amanda and T.J. Bledsoe of Dobson; a stepgrandson and his spouse, Tim and Anita Draughon of Dobson; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goings was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Grant Goings; and a sister, Eva Atkinson. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
