Mrs. Vera Susan Blair Jessup, 96, of 168 Bradford Lane, Pilot Mountain, passed away Monday evening, January 4, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born July 4, 1913, in Surry County, to the late William Bunyan and Mervia Rosella Taylor Blair. Mrs. Jessup was a retired employee of the Surry County Schools, working in the cafeteria at East Surry High School Cafeteria for several years. She was one of the oldest living members of Jessup Grove Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Jessup is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Kenneth and Pansy Jessup and Keith and Carol Jessup, all of Pilot Mountain, and Kary and Von Jessup of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Alma Blair Coleman; and several special nieces. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jessup was preceded in death by her husband, Earlie Garfield Jessup; two sisters, Annie Dean and Ruby Blair; and two brothers, Calvin C. Blair and Johnny Blair. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Jessup Grove Baptist Church, by the Rev. Kenneth Jessup and the Rev. Joey Jessup. The body will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Roger Vaden. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Jessup Grove Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Central Continuing Care and the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the care and support given to Mrs. Vera.
