Vera Belva Lockwood Snow Patterson, 99 years and 10 months of age, passed away peacefully at The Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility in Winston Salem NC on August 30 2013. She was born to Richard Austin and Susan Lamirah Scott Snow on October, 30, 1913 in the Round Peak section of Surry County, NC. She was predeceased by her parents and husband James Robert Patterson, brothers, Irvin Brady, Otis Shasta, Willie Rayburn and Edgar Austin Snow; sisters, Nonnie Rosa York, Odessa Woltz Stockton. Nephews Milton Snow and Franklin Snow. Survivors, include, a half brother, Jack Snow of Mt. Airy, NC and half sisters, Polly Kelly and Peggy James both of Pilot Mtn. NC., a daughter Patsy (Robert) Leftwich of Clemmons, NC, grandson Patrick (Sandy) Leftwich of Burlington, NC, granddaughter Julia (Scott) Bobbitt of Lewisville, NC, great granddaughters Lauren Leftwich of Boone, NC, and Natalie Massey of Burlington, NC, Nieces, Glenda Corrihor and Elizabeth Dupuy, and nephew Richard Snow and a multitude of great nieces and nephews, friends and admirers. After graduating high school she attended Draughns Business College in Winston Salem, NC. She spent most of her life in her beloved Blue Ridge Mountain foothills village of Lowgap, NC. She and her husband owned and operated a little county store and cafe there and she worked as a bookkeeper for T.N Woodruff and Co. and was assistant Post Master at the Lowgap post office. She taught Sunday school at Mtn. View Baptist Church and was involved in church and local community activities. Her family and friends were the lucky recipients of her delicious Sunday dinners lovingly prepared from her bountiful vegetable garden, with lots of crispy brown biscuits and homemade cakes and pies. She leaves behind a legacy of respect and compassion for her friends, family, church, country and most of all for her Savior who she tirelessly acknowledged and served throughout her life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Parsons at Moody Funeral Home, Mt Airy NC at 2:00 PM on Sunday September 1, 2013. Burial will follow in the Ivy Green church cemetery in Mt. Airy, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
