Vera Bledsoe Smitherman

Mrs. Vera Bledsoe Smitherman, age 84 of Siloam, NC passed away on Monday May 12, 2008 at Elkin Health Care in Elkin. She was born in Surry County on August 30, 1923 to the late Thomas Bledsoe and to the late Anna Edmonds Bledsoe. In addition to her parents two husbands Swanson Cardwell and Everette Simmons preceded her in death. Mrs. Smitherman was a member of New Home Church of Christ and was retired from Washington Mills. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law Mary and David Burchette of State Road, NC; two sons and daughter-in-law Curtis Cardwell of Kinston, NC and Bruce and Teresa Simmons of King, NC; by three grandchildren Gary and Tanya Reaves, Amy and Chris Hill, Robyn and Rusty Tysor; seven great grandchildren; three sisters Pansy Moore of Danville, VA, Mae Crissman and Geneva Mabe both of Siloam, NC.; by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at New Home Church of Christ with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Tim Smith will conduct the service The family will receive friends at New Home Church of Christ on Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM, and at other times the home of her sister Geneva Mabe in Siloam NC. Her body will be taken back to Moody-Davis Funeral following the visitation and placed back in the church Wednesday morning to lie in state 30 Min. before the service. The family would like to give a special thanks to her nieces and nephews for love giving to their mother.
