Verba Mae Johnson Lowe

Mrs. Verba Mae Johnson Lowe, 72, of 9654 West Pine Street, Lowgap, passed away Wednesday evening, December 15, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Lowe was born January 21, 1938, in Surry County, daughter of the late Johnny Fred and Foye Beulah Goodson Johnson. Verba retired from Spencer's Inc. after 33 years of service and was a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Lynn Lowe of the home; four adopted grandchildren, Brandon Price, Robby Shelton, Samantha Shelton, and Marissa Mabe, all of Lowgap; a brother and sister-in-law, Woodie and Eula Johnson of Siloam; two nieces, Heather Johnson and Donna Nichols and her husband, Roy, all of Lowgap; three nephews and their wives, Kevin and Lindsay Johnson of Raleigh, Kris and Angie Johnson of Dobson, and Doug and Suzette Glasco of Mount Airy; several great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Marian "Tootsie" Galyean, Bernice Price, Grayson Cockerham, and Rosetta Goins, all of Lowgap, and Linda Goard of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Dean Lowe; an infant sister, Betty Jean Johnson; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wallace Gray and Helen Johnson and Donnie Johnson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Roaring Gap Baptist Church, with the Rev. Woody Flippen and the Rev. Randy Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirby-Lowe Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
