Christine Stevens Hunter

Mrs. Christine Stevens Hunter, age 86, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville.  She was born on August 14, 1937 in Surry County to the late William Raymond and Etta Hiatt Stevens.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her.  Mrs. Hunter worked for Surry County Schools for more than 25 years.  She had a great love for her students and her students loved her; even after they were grown they sent numerous letters and gifts to her down through the years.  Mrs. Hunter was a life-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Denise Hunter Iroler (Kent); sons, Michael Hunter who was her caretaker for over 3 years, Phillip Matthew Hunter (Nicole); eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hunter Brown; sisters, Cleo Stevens, Vera Hiatt, Mildred Hall; brothers, Bobby and James Stevens.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM at James Monroe Hiatt Cemetery with service conducted by Dr. Jonathan Casstevens. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
