Mrs. Verda Jane Chaney Scott was born February 17, 1919, to Matthew and Mary Stovall Chaney and peacefully passed away April 26, at 94 years of age, with her family and her Northern Hospital Skilled Nursing community at her side. Mrs. Scott was born in Patrick County, Virginia, and was married for 69 years to Thomas Franklin Scott. She was a career textile worker, a homemaker, an excellent cook, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great friend and church worker and member of Bannertown Baptist Church. She was the last family member of her generation. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Phyllis Scott Hall, a great-grandson, George B. Little and fourteen sisters and brothers. Survivors include three sons, Alvin Scott of Mount Airy, Roger Scott (Fran) of Rural Hall and Mickey Scott (Pam) of Raleigh. Grandchildren include Christie Racowitz of Concord, Teresa Little ( Wes) of Southern Pines, Gregory Hall (Tia) of Manassas, VA, Dr. Christopher Scott (Corie) of Charlottesville, VA, Rev. Andrew Scott (Amy) of Chattanooga, TN, Sarah Lloyd (2nd Lt. Andrew) of Pensacola, FL and Alexandria Scott of Wilmington. Great-grandchildren include Noah, Logan and Luke Racowitz of Concord, Victoria and Wesley Little of Southern Pines, Jackson and Jonscott Hall of Manassas, VA, Nathan, Keegan and Raleigh Scott of Charlottesville, VA and Jonathan and Salem Scott of Chattanooga, TN. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy from 6-8 PM Monday night. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 30, at Bannertown Baptist Church, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, conducted by Rev. Mickey Cogdill and Rev. Rusty Reed. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. An expression of loving gratitude is offered to the Skilled Nursing Staff of Northern Hospital for the love given our family over the past four years. Memorials may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church.
