Mrs. Verla Marie Stevens Fore, 84, of 140 Fairlane Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Fore was born January 10, 1926, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Preston and Rosa Lee Harris Stevens. Verla was a homemaker and also a caregiver for children in her home. She also kept the nursery for many years at Fellowship Baptist Church. Mrs. Fore was a member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church in Cana, VA. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Jerry E. Hatcher and Kathy and Tim Flippen, all of Mount Airy; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Gary Wayne Fore of the home, Donald Lee and Linda Fore and Jerry Edward and Shirley Fore, all of Mount Airy, and Teddy Gray and Debbie Fore of Elkin; grandchildren and their spouses, Billy and Sherri Fore, Jamie and Leslie Fore, Michelle and Steve Kirkman, Macy and Brad Inman, Diana Flippen, and Ashley Flippen, all of Mount Airy, Kevin and Trish Fore of Lowgap, and Carrie Fore and Candie Fore, both of Elkin; great-grandchildren, Brayden Fore, Isabella Fore, Samantha Cook, and Betsy Kirkman, all of Mount Airy; two step-great-grandchildren, Breanna Inman and Greg Lail, both of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fore was preceded in death by her husband, Lovit Edward "Ed" Fore; four brothers Fred, Ray, Frank, and Claude Stevens; and six sisters, Bessie Ward, Hattie Whitaker, Ruthie Lynch, Ellie Anderson, Mae Boles, and Nellie Spivey. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. R.L. McDaniel, the Rev. Milton Sewell, and the Rev. Ed Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers, Mary Sue Golding, Angie Woodruff, Dawn Poore, Katherine Hill, Millie Marsh, and Linda Draughn, and the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
