Verlie Nellie Head

Mrs. Verlie Nellie Gates Head, 98, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, January 11, 2019, at Central Continuing Care.  Mrs. Head was born April 17, 1920, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Charles Solomon and Bertha Utt Gates.  Verlie retired from Lynne Hosiery Mill and was a faithful member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined.  She is survived by a son-in-law, Earl Sellers of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Lanae Sellers Pendleton of Mount Airy; a grandson, Brian Sellers of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Ericca Lanae Latza of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Ryan Sellers of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her husband, William C. “Bill” Head; a daughter, Judith Faye Head Sellers; and several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Chris Benfield officiating.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 922 Banner Street, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
