Verlin Joseph Hawks

Mr. Verlin Joseph Hawks, 70, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at his home. Mr. Hawks was born November 21, 1940, in Surry County, to Wayburn Winfield and Clinnie Galyean Hawks. He retired from United Technologies and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. Surviving are his devoted wife of 41 years, Norma Lee Hill Hawks of the home; two brothers, Wilmer Paul Hawks and his wife, Shirley, of Lowgap and Price D. Hawks and his wife, Maebelle, of Dobson; a brother-in-law, Preston E. Hill of Pilot Mountain and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by a sister, Alie Burcham; and three brothers, Carl A. Hawks, James A. Hawks, and Manuel Hawks. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate and the Rev. Gray Kirkman officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday morning one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
