Verna Coleman

        Mrs. Verna “Granny” Coleman, age 88 of Spencer, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Sovah Health of Martinsville.  She was born in South Carolina on May 7, 1931, to the late Jesse Herbert Bonds and Cora Lee Gunter Bonds.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Coleman; two sons, William Coleman (Willie) and Edward Coleman (Eddie); one granddaughter, Shaunaci Knight; special niece, Jewel Fouler;  and siblings, Irene Bonds, Clarence Bonds, Ida Mae Hall, K.C. Bonds, Emma Louise Bonds, Waymon Earl Bonds, Walter Herbert Bonds, Mary Lou Bonds,  Horace Allen Bonds.  Granny was a hard worker her entire life; she loved working in her garden, flowers, and alongside her daughters in the greenhouse or restaurants.  She took joy in her family, especially her grandbabies, she was known to have or make gravy and biscuits at their request.

         Surviving are three daughters and son-in-law, Mary Coleman of the home, Patricia and Tim Knight of Sandy Ridge, North Carolina, Martha O’Neil of Thomasville, North Carolina; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Coleman of Spencer, Virginia, Robert and Cathy Coleman of Stuart, Virginia, Nova Coleman of Stuart, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

         Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Ed Hartman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
