Miss Verna Ray Jarrell, age 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, at her residence. Verna was born January 18, 1951, to the late Oval Nelson Jarrell and Grace Doris Rich Jarrell. She grew up in Mount Airy, out in the country a bit. Verna was creative, artistic, and loved to create unique gifts for her friends and loved ones. Surviving is her mother of the home, brother and sister-in-law, Adrian Jarrell and Sherita, sister and brother-in-law, Trula ‘TJ” Barker and Bill. After graduating Mount Airy High School, she moved to Chapel Hill as a college freshman and just fell in love with the place and a few of the people there, with whom she kept in close contact with all the rest of her life. She ran a custom framing business with one of those dear friends for many years, and her creativity is on display in the homes of many of her loved ones. She loved and appreciated her wonderful Chapel Hill friends! After selling her condo there, Verna moved back to Mount Airy to be the caregiver of her mother until her passing. It truly was a great blessing to her mother, allowing her to stay in her own home. The family is dearly grateful for that blessing that our dear sister provided mom. In addition to her father, Miss Jarrell was preceded in death by her brothers, Rich Nelson Jarrell and Maurice Edward Jarrell. A memorial graveside service will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2PM at Skyline Memory Gardens. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Jarrell family.
