Vernell Blanche Ball Phillips

Mrs. Vernell Blanche Ball Phillips, 83, of 106 Galyean Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Phillips was born July 25, 1925, in Surry County, daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Maggie Simmons Ball. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from Perry Manufacturing, where she was employed for more than 33 years. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tim Bruner of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Jan Phillips of Checotah, OK; grandchildren, Tina Knowles and husband, Todd, of CA, Jeff Phillips of CA, Brian Bruner and wife, Lark, of Mount Airy, and Jennifer Hall and husband, Kelly, of Mount Airy; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Verlie Sumners of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Ball of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Don Phillips; and a daughter, Donnell Phillips. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Gary Sawyers and the Rev. David Burgess, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted.
