Mr. Vernon Caldwell Park, 69, of 1061 Salem Village Lane, Clemmons, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 26, 2013, at his home. Mr. Park was born November 25, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Coy Mack Park, Sr. and Vera Jarrell Park. He graduated from Ragsdale High School in Jamestown in 1962, and he earned a bachelor's degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1966. Vernon served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970, and, as a result of his bravery, he was decorated with several commendations, including a Silver Star and a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He worked as a federal agent with the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for 26 years. During his tenure as a federal agent, he worked as a supervisor for Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force in Detroit, MI. Park was an accomplished saxophonist and played with several well-known bands. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Musick Park of the home; a son, Hank Watkins Park of Greensboro; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Coy Mack Park, Jr. and Linda Park of Martinsville, VA, and David Glenn and Lynne Park of Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Mr. Park was preceded in death by a son, Caldwell Pryor "Pete" Park. A service to celebrate Vernon Caldwell Park's life will be held Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Salem Glen Country Club, 1000 Glen Day Drive, Clemmons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jamestown Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1345, Jamestown, NC 27282, for the restoration and upkeep of the old school and library building. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Park family.
