Mrs. Versie Emma Haymore Adams Gammons, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. She was born July 21, 1918, in Surry County, to the late Frank and Lula Johnson Haymore. She was a farmer and homemaker and was a member of Indian Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Brenda Quesinberry, Betty and Mike Simmons, Frankie and Johnny Cox, and Frances and Frank Gammons, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Bill and Jean Adams and Burney and Mary Leigh Adams, all of Mount Airy; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Glenn Gammons and Harlan and Betty Gammons, all of Mount Airy; a stepson-in-law, Moses Durham of Elkin; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Bertha Haymore of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gammons was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Adams; and her second husband, Andrew Gammons; and a brother, Abbie Haymore. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Indian Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Floyd and the Rev. Rickey Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family requests that any food be taken to the Indian Grove Fellowship Building for the family meal and fellowship at the Indian Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the burial at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. In addition to flower donations, memorials may be made to the Indian Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Building Fund, c/o Brenda Quesinberry, 1620 Holly Springs Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express a special heartfelt thanks to the caretakers at Central Continuing Care.
