Vestal Gray Hawks

Mr. Vestal Gray Hawks, 73, of Cana, passed away at Twin County Hospital, Tuesday, May 17, 2022.  He was born in Carroll County, VA, March 10, 1949, to the late Barney Garland Hawks and Stella Frances Akers Hawks.  Mr. Hawks bravely served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He retired from Proctor-Silex and attended Fellowship Tabernacle.  Mr. Hawks was a loving father, brother, and friend.  He is survived by his daughter Hope Hemrick; sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie and Tabitha Hawks, Cliff and Janet Hawks, Sparky and Amanda Hawks; grandchildren, Jimmy Simone, Samantha Simone, Jenna, Shane, Cheyenne, Abigail, Gabrielle, and Israel Hawks, Isaac Burton; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Kayden, Dawson; sisters and a brothers-in-law, Juanita Hawks, Louella and Melvin McMillian, and Linda and Rector Cagle; and a brother Haywood Hawks.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by a sister Faye Tate; and the mother of his children, Joyce Hawks.  A funeral service will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel Friday, May 20, 2022, at 3:00 PM with Rev. Donald Bryant and Rev. Chad Crotts.  Burial will follow in the Sandy Ridge Primitive Church Cemetery with full military honors.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Grover King Post 1115, 701 W. Stuart Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343.
